Last year, Pathak helped Amyris Inc. get three patents issued on polymers produced by living cells and on biotechnology methods.


The company's patent portfolio is intended to produce fuels and chemicals for commercial purposes from renewable sources.


"[Amyris] identifies chemicals that are on the market today and they create renewable organisms that can make the same chemicals, or similar chemicals," he said.
