The State Bar's funding bill got off to a much smoother start with the state Legislature on Tuesday than it did a year ago.
After about a 20-minute discussion, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved without any voiced opposition the bill that would split off the bar's 16 specialty practice groups, known as sections, into a private nonprofit.
