Nearly eight years ago on Labor Day, a wildfire began in Moonlight Valley, a scenic area near Lake Almanor in the northeastern part of the state. By the following week, the fire had consumed 52,000 acres, forced residents to evacuate, and frustrated nearly 2,800 firefighters who battled the flames. By the time the fire was contained, 65,000 acres had burned, including parts of the Plumas and Lassen national forests.
