The ACLU of Southern California held its 18th Annual Law Luncheon in Los Angeles at the Marriott Hotel on June 8. Laurie L. Levenson, professor of law at Loyola Law School, delivered the keynote speech, which addressed the issue of the death penalty in California. Hadsell Stormer Keeny Richardson & Renick LLP was honored for its work in challenging the federal government for secretly spying on Orange County Muslims in their mosques. Chaplain Paulino Juarez was recognized for his bravery in stepping forward to expose deputy-on-inmate violence in L.A. County jails in spite of his fear of retaliation.
