On April 17, the city of Boulder, Colorado, and the counties of Boulder and San Miguel, sued Suncor and ExxonMobil for damages suffered to persons and property as a result of extreme weather events caused by climate change. Heralded as an important development because the lawsuit is the first to move climate change litigation inland from suits pending in California and New York, it has the potential to be" the canary in the coal mine" for insurers across the nation.
