9th Circuit weighs lawsuit seeking to block Jewish ritual chicken slaughter

A Virginia-based animal advocacy group trying to stop an Orange County synagogue from practicing the ritual slaughter of chickens faced a skeptical federal appeals court panel Tuesday, suggesting a future blow to their legal efforts may be on the horizon.

PASADENA -- An animal advocacy group trying to stop an Orange County synagogue from practicing the ritual slaughter of chickens faced a skeptical federal appeals court panel Tuesday, suggesting a future blow to its legal efforts may be on the horizon.

For over two years, United Poultry Concerns, based in Virginia, has pursued legal action against the Chabad of Irvine, arguing its continued practice of Kapparot is illegal.
