UC Berkeley Law abandons Boalt name

Berkeley Law is eliminating the Boalt name from its campus in light of John Boalt’s racist views.

UC Berkeley School of Law announced Tuesday it will no longer use the Boalt name in light of recently discovered evidence of San Francisco attorney John Boalt supporting the Chinese Exclusion Act.

The UC Berkeley School of Law will no longer use the Boalt name in light of John Boalt’s racist statements, Dean Erwin Chemerinsky announced Tuesday. Chemerinsky also recommended the name be scrubbed from Boalt Hall though the final decision will be made by Berkeley Chancellor Carol Christ.
