40 percent pass July bar exam, a decline from last summer’s results

The July exam pass rate dropped to 43 percent in 2016, a 32-year low, but rose to 49.6 percent last year, the best result in four years. This year, however, the downward trend in scores continued, falling by 8.9 percentage points from last year.

With the worst summer exam result on record, just 40.7 percent of bar exam takers passed the July 2018 California test, five months after February's all-time low 27.4 percent pass rate.
