Analyze rather than assert

As a law professor, I wish students would hesitate before denouncing government actions, or public officials, as "racist" or "sexist." Although I share their sentiments in many, but not all, cases, I must be responsible as a teacher for insisting they analyze rather than assert. Their reflexive disapproval is not likely to persuade people who do not already agree with them. They will not be effective advocates.
