By some reports, hedge funds and other investors have amassed as much as $100 billion to invest in civil lawsuits, an emerging financial business whose goal is to make big profits off other people's day in court. Just one company, Buford Capital, has invested nearly $2 billion in commercial litigation and is seeking to place at least that much more in what has become one of the fastest-growing and most secretive segments of the investment world.
