Richard D. Pfeiffer, the attorney fighting for the release of a follower of Charles Manson, said his affinity for "lifers" came from his own days behind bars.
Pfeiffer, who served two years and four months in state prison for robbery, said when a riot broke out or a clash between inmates and guards escalated, the men serving life were always the ones deflating tensions and restoring order.
