A class of defrauded students asked a U.S. magistrate judge Monday to increase a $100,000 contempt fine against the U.S. Department of Education for continuing to illegally collect loan payments in violation of a court order.
A class of defrauded students asked a U.S. magistrate judge Monday to increase a $100,000 contempt fine against the U.S. Department of Education for continuing to illegally collect loan payments in violation of a court order.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos seized more than $21 million from roughly 45,000 students, far more than the 16,000 the department originally disclosed, according to court filings.
