Governor releases some, still redacted, clemency records

The First Amendment Coalition announced receipt of the records Monday, over two months after the state Supreme Court issued six unanimous rulings Sept. 11 denying Newsom's attempt to seal the entirety of the clemency files. The state high court ordered the governor to resubmit the records, in addition to proposed redactions, by Sept. 25.

Days after receiving the previously sealed clemency records of six twice-convicted felons from Gov. Gavin Newsom's office, the First Amendment Coalition said it needs to decide whether it will push the governor for more transparency by challenging redactions in the released documents.
