State Supreme Court seems poised to set precedent for lawyer conflicts in capital case
The defense counsel alleged in its brief “an astonishing number of errors and instances of misconduct” occurred in the prosecution, giving rise to pointed questions last week from three state high court justices on how that contention jibes with the firm’s hiring the chief attorney involved in that prosecution.




Referencing a recent case in which a convicted murderer's appellate counsel works at the same firm as the prosecutor who helped secure his death penalty, an ethics expert said Friday the state Supreme Court is poised to possibly set an "interesting" precedent for cases involving such potential conflicts of interest.
