Bill to block criminal checks for universities introduced

A “ban the box” bill that would block colleges and universities from asking student applicants about their criminal histories is scheduled for its first hearing by in a state Senate committee Wednesday

A "ban the box" bill that would block colleges and universities from asking student applicants about their criminal histories is scheduled for its first hearing in a state Senate committee Wednesday.

SB 776 would apply to all public and private postsecondary institutions and would effectively prevent school officials from taking applicants' criminal records into account when making admissions decisions.
