New Alameda-Contra Costa trial lawyers president says minorities are underrepresented in the profession

As the first African American to hold the post, Shawn Tillis said he sees underrepresentation on the basis of race as an urgent problem that made the organization “look like hypocrites.”

When he begins his one-year tenure as president of the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association on Thursday, Shawn Tillis said he will not be sparing anyone's feelings in his comments about the race of fellow attorneys or other people he encounters.

"I am not above saying this place or this firm or this business is way too white," Tillis said in an interview Wednesday.
