Defendant wasn’t careful enough but isn’t guilty of trade secrets crime, lawyer says

Prosecutors say Katherine Mogal, Jawbone’s former director of customer insights, violated the law by taking valuable user and consumer experience studies when she left in 2015 to take a similar position at Fitbit, a rival in the wearable fitness technology market.

SAN JOSE -- While AliphCom Inc.'s lawsuits against Fitbit Inc. over alleged trade secrets appropriation by defecting employees were either settled or rejected, and the company itself -- known as Jawbone -- has dissolved, the first of six former employees is facing a criminal trial that could end with years of prison time.
