Bill would force property owners to sell to tenants, charities, local governments

SB1079, introduced Tuesday, seeks to reduce homelessness by penalizing property owners, specifically corporations, that leave homes vacant for three months and forcing them to sell to tenants, non-profit organizations or government agencies at a stipulated price.

A bill introduced Tuesday is aimed at reducing homelessness by penalizing property owners, and corporations that leave homes vacant for three months and forcing them to sell to tenants, non-profit organizations or government agencies at a stipulated price.

The bill, SB 1079, aims to reduce the amount of vacant homes across the state by offering incentives as well as levying penalties.
