Attorneys reach settlement with California over landmark literacy lawsuit

The settlement, approved by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rupert A. Byrdsong Thursday, establishes a $50 million grant over three years that will go to the 75 lowest-performing schools in the state, each of which could receive up to $50,000.

Attorneys at Morrison & Foerster LLP and pro bono firm Public Counsel secured a settlement Thursday with California over a landmark lawsuit involving the state's literacy performance by elementary school students.
