Bar temporarily halts work on non-lawyer legal services pilot program

Public comments indicated that there was overwhelming opposition in the California legal community to easing regulations for nontraditional legal entities to provide legal services.

The State Bar temporarily stopped work toward a proposed pilot program for nontraditional legal entities to test out new ways of delivering online legal services in a controlled environment, without being accused of unauthorized practice of the law.

Further action on the program was postponed until May, after a bar committee meeting Thursday.
