California Department of Transportation overreached in new meal and rest break suit

The lawsuit challenges an order issued in January, which approved a petition by the American Bus Association asking the federal agency to make a break exemption for bus drivers.

The U.S. Department of Transportation overreached when it tried to exempt California bus drivers from state laws concerning meal and rest breaks, the state’s attorney general and labor commissioner alleged in court papers filed with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
