Two judges OK early jail releases because of virus, others object
District attorney’s offices across the state are working with their local sheriffs, the defense bar and the courts to explore the option of releasing inmates who don’t pose a risk to the public, said Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley.




Superior court judges in Sacramento and San Diego counties authorized their respective sheriff's offices to expedite the release of convicts being held on non-serious felony and misdemeanor charges who have 30 or fewer days remaining in their sentences.
The orders were to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the judges said. There have been no confirmed cases of the virus in the jails.
