Justice Department sued for continuing immigration hearings

As promised, immigration lawyers nationwide who called for immigration court closures have sued the Executive Office of Immigration Review and Immigration Customs Enforcement for holding detention hearings and offering no remote access to file critical case documents or meet with their clients in detention amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Advocates followed through on a threat to sue to force the federal government to temporarily release detainees in immigration lockups without adequate access to lawyers and suspend in-person detention hearings amid the health crisis.
