US judge won’t force Lyft to pay drivers state-mandated sick leave

U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria reasoned the drivers will likely lose federal coronavirus relief benefits if they are considered employees under California law.

SAN FRANCISCO — For the second time this week, a federal judge in San Francisco turned down an emergency bid by rideshare drivers to force their employer, this time Lyft Inc., to provide state-mandated paid sick leave by classifying them as employees.
