CJP reports 10-year low for investigation of judges beyond initial review in 2019
The commission closed 93% of cases after an initial review in 2019, the highest by percentage in 10 years, it said in the report released this week. Of the 1,241 complaints considered, 79 led to a preliminary investigation, 40 led to staff inquiries and one led to a formal proceeding.





After last year’s scathing audit of the Commission on Judicial Performance, in which the state auditor said “weaknesses in its oversight have created opportunities for judicial misconduct to persist,” the commission’s annual report released this week revealed it made fewer, not more, investigations into potential misconduct in 2019.
