1,300 students ask high court to allow diplomas without passing the bar

The State Bar has not yet announced whether it will postpone the July exam until the fall or stick to the current date. The Committee of Bar Examiners will discuss the exam during an emergency public meeting Friday.

Law students asked the California Supreme Court and legislators on Tuesday to implement an emergency diploma privilege that would allow graduates to practice without taking the bar exam.

Their letter, said to be from a consortium of 1,300 students and professors, is a response to the uncertainty of whether or when the bar exam will be administered this year.
