The Eastern District of California in Sacramento is the latest federal court to seek suspension of speedy criminal trial rights for up to a year.
A shortage of judges and a spike among prisoners seeking release on humanitarian grounds are exacerbating the court's already strained resources, Chief Judge Kimberly J. Mueller told the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a letter Wednesday.
