Attorneys spar over funding PG&E’s $4M manslaughter fine
The utility originally intended to use interest accrued in its $13.5 billion settlement with wildfire victims to pay the penalty. It argued the two sides agreed all fines from “fire claimants” would be paid with money from the trust.





SAN FRANCISCO -- Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. will not use money meant for wildfire victims to pay a $4 million fine to Butte County after pleading guilty to 84 felony counts of manslaughter, the utility's attorney told a bankruptcy judge Tuesday.
After a wave of public criticism from claimants, PG&E reached a deal with insurers to pay the fine.
