Most virus-related prison releases are young inmates, convicted of crimes against persons or property

Of the 3,496 inmates released on expedited parole, more than 2,000 are between the ages of 25 and 39, while only 107 are 60 and over, while calls for early releases by prisoner advocates had said aged and sickly inmates needed to be freed to protect them from the coronavirus.

Of the nearly 3,500 inmates released on expedited parole this week, most are between the ages of 25 and 39, and almost 1,000 have committed crimes against persons, according to recent data provided by the prisons department.
