Some crime victim advocates call for responsible inmate releases

“When survivors are surveyed on what kind of priorities they want to see in the criminal justice system, the majority of victims prefer shorter sentences and more spending on prevention and rehabilitation over long sentences or sentences that incarcerate people for the maximum length of time,” said Lenore Anderson, president and co-founder of Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice.

Three national crime victim support groups advocated Wednesday for mass reductions in prison and jail populations across the nation and called on Congress to create a $1 billion crisis emergency fund to expand community-based assistance and rehabilitative services for victims and the convicts re-entering society.
