Defense cites legality of sentencing, health concerns to secure releases
San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan’s office said Wednesday that while the office supports the release of certain inmates who are nearing the end of their sentences and those who have underlying medical conditions, prosecutors do not agree with the release of Jane Dorotik, convicted of murdering her husband for financial gain in 2001.

Students and defense attorneys at Loyola Law School's Project for the Innocent secured the release of two convicted murderers from state prison this week, though the district attorney suggested she'll continue to fight one decision, which was based on the impossibility of an evidentiary hearing during the court closures.
Jane Dorotik, 73, was convicted in 2001 of killing her husband and sentenced to 25 years to life.
