State says ACLU jail release request would violate local control

Responding to one of two custody-related writ petitions, state attorney says jail releases should remain in county control.

A writ petition seeking the widespread release of California jail inmates asks the state Supreme Court and Gov. Gavin Newsom to assume authority, the attorney general's office argued this week.
