Riverside County under federal order to social distance its jail inmates

U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips said the county “has failed to demonstrate that it is currently taking adequate precautions to protect the health of the prisoners.”

After a second sheriff's deputy and a second inmate at Riverside County jail died due to an illness related to coronavirus, a federal judge ordered the county to explain how it will handle one of the largest jail outbreaks in the state.
