9th Circuit hears arguments Tuesday on solitary confinement conditions

The 2015 settlement between the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Center for Constitutional Rights outlined a two-year agreement in which the department would move to end indeterminate solitary confinement in state prisons.

Constitutional rights attorneys will urge the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday to uphold a district court ruling that the state prison system violated an agreement aimed at protecting prisoners' Eighth Amendment and due process rights.
