Fishers’ strict liability claims to remain in oil spill case

A pipeline company criminally convicted for the 2015 Refugio oil spill in Santa Barbara County lost all its motions for decertification and summary judgment in the case involving a subclass of fishers who claim economic losses as marine species dramatically declined.

Plains All American Pipeline LP lost nearly all its motions to throw out claims filed by a class of fishers who claim they incurred income losses following a 2015 oil spill across 100 miles of Santa Barbara County coastline that resulted in species declination.
