Parties square off in federal litigation over coffee labeling
The California Chamber of Commerce spent much of the hearing in federal court in Sacramento trying to show listing coffee as containing a carcinogen posed a threat to businesses. State Department of Justice attorneys sought to get the group’s complaint dismissed for a second time, arguing the matter belongs in state court.




A contentious, multi-party hearing in a food labeling case Friday didn't shed much new light on whether or not coffee causes cancer. But it could have an affect on future litigation over the state's Proposition 65 requirements for warnings on products that might be carcinogenic.
