Pacific Coast University School of Law loses state accreditation

Accredited law schools must maintain a minimum bar passage rate of 40% or more for five years. The Long Beach school has been out of compliance since the bar implemented the requirement in 2015. In 2019, the school had a passage rate of 26.6%.

Pacific Coast University School of Law lost its California accreditation during a hearing Friday of the Committee of Bar Examiners.

"This isn't a dig on the staff or the administration," said Kareem Gongora, a member of the committee. "I know they're great and that the institution has a very powerful history, but I hope they come back, and they're able to show us their progress."
