US attorney says LA water bill litigation might hamper criminal probe

The disclosure of the federal prosecutors' concerns appeared in a report filed Monday by Brian Kabateck of Kabateck LLP, who in his capacity as the new attorney for a wrongly billed ratepayer class is evaluating the validity of a $67 million settlement.

The U.S. attorney has told new class counsel representing potentially defrauded Los Angeles Department of Water And Power ratepayers to stop pursing bank records of attorneys under investigation for collusion and kickbacks, saying it might be harmful to the government's investigation, according to a new report filed in superior court.
