Elder abuse suits rise as industry awaits governor’s action

Representatives from six health care groups signed a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom in early April requesting an executive order to give criminal and civil liability protection to care providers, including residential care facilities and senior living providers during the pandemic.

Despite the senior care industry pleading for liability protections, neither the governor nor the Legislature has indicated they will do so as elder abuse and wrongful death suits relating to Covid-19 are beginning to be filed throughout California.
