US judge pares back antitrust action over Facebook ads

U.S. District Judge Beth Freeman whittled down a substantial portion of the proposed antitrust class action, finding the social media giant never intentionally lied to or harmed the would-be rivals.

Facebook did not cover up allegedly anticompetitive conduct starting with its 2012 acquisition of Instagram and WhatsApp that now-defunct companies say shut them out of the digital advertising market, a federal judge in San Jose ruled.
