State can’t pursue claim for gig drivers, motions say

The Federal Arbitration Act prevents the government officials from pursuing the claim on behalf of Uber and Lyft drivers, motions filed this week said.

Government officials and agencies cannot seek restitution from Uber and Lyft for violating California's Unfair Competition Law, since drivers for those companies entered into arbitration agreements for that type of claim, according to separate motions to compel arbitration filed by Uber and Lyft.
