Rules blocking evictions, foreclosure hearings may be rescinded soon, chief justice says

The Judicial Council voted to hold back $25 million to help courts deal with COVID-19 related backlogs.

The Judicial Council might soon rescind rules blocking courts from hearing evictions and foreclosures, California Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye announced at a budget meeting Friday.

Those rules, passed in April, were intended as temporary measures while "the Legislature was not in session to be able to respond to those needs," she said.
