Proposed class alleges LA police wrongly recorded thousands as gang affiliates

The proposed plaintiffs’ class consists of about 1,000 Los Angeles residents who were allegedly subjected to misclassification as gang members, roughly 500 residents who were made part of a gang database and some 5,000 residents who were misclassified as gang associates.

At least 27 Los Angeles police officers are accused of misclassifying possibly thousands of people as gang members, according to allegations in a proposed class action filed in federal court this week.
