Law enforcement unions sue to halt LA County charter change ballot measure

Law enforcement agencies have largely opposed the amendment because it would prohibit any of the earmarked funds from being distributed to the district attorney’s office or sheriff’s department and would mean cuts in their budgets.

Attorneys representing law enforcement unions in Southern California are trying to remove a charter amendment from the November ballot that would funnel at least 10% of Los Angeles County's annual unrestricted general funds to pay for social service programs.
