Wildlife group wants to stop luxury project in fire zone

A wildlife protection organization has been challenging approval of a new luxury resort and residential development proposed in Guenoc Valley, alleging the project site “was going up in flames.”

Historically destructive blazes in California have armed environmental advocates with wildfire assessment requirements to challenge development projects they say are not up to snuff.

Raising the specter of scorched homes and evacuating residents, a 2018 amendment to the state's signature environmental review law forces local decision makers to decide if a project adequately evaluated wildfire risks.
