Virus does what GOP couldn’t: slow Democrat lawmaking in Sacramento

Wednesday’s Senate session was canceled after Sen. Brian Jones, R-Santee, tested positive for the virus. The body came back on Thursday, but with all but one GOP senator absent due to having been in meetings with Jones.

COVID-19 has done something Republicans in Sacramento have failed to do for years -- slow down the Democratic bill-passing machine. But on Thursday, the virus also left Republican Senators unable to object as their Democratic colleagues approved two bills related to policing.
