Judge grants preliminary injunction blocking SAT, ACT tests in UC system

Superior Court Judge Brad Seligman, in a ruling made available Tuesday, granted a preliminary injunction sought by plaintiffs who challenged the policy because they argued it would not offer “meaningful access” to test takers with disabilities.

An Alameda County judge blocked the entire University of California system from using SAT and ACT scores in admissions this academic year, concluding the COVID-19 virus has made it impossible for disabled test-takers to take advantage of a "test-optional" policy allowing applicants to some UC schools to have those results considered.
