Ventura judge says witnesses will wear clear face shields so their expressions can be seen

Some attorneys said that Supervising Civil Judge Vincent J. O'Neill Jr. at first had made it optional for witnesses in the commercial eviction case to wear masks, but changed his mind after their objections.

A judge used his discretion to allow witnesses to wear face shields, rather than masks, when Ventura County's first civil jury trial in nearly six months begins Thursday, but he's facing objections from attorneys on all sides.
