DAs are split on potential results of Proposition 20

The ballot measure aims to expand the list of felonies and sentence enhancements that are considered violent, including hate crimes and rape of an unconscious person, for which early parole can be restricted.

Following a $1 million pledge from former Gov. Jerry Brown to defeat Proposition 20 at the November ballot, some progressive district attorneys said this week that crime victims would have fewer resources to recover, recidivism rates would increase and mass incarceration would skyrocket if it passes.
