With DA’s help, Loyola gains release of man after 20 years
In 2001 at age 15, Barnes was tried as an adult and convicted of two counts of attempted murder and one count of assault. He was sentenced to 40 years to life. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Raul Sahagun resentenced Barnes to a lower term, ordering his release on Sept. 4.





Years of legal work by the Loyola Project for the Innocent culminated in the release of a man who spent nearly 20 years in prison.
